A John Adams was baptised in 1726 with parent of John & Ann Adams in Bourton-on-the-Water less then 10 miles away from Sevenhampton, This could be the correct baptism as two of John’s children are called John & Ann.

Why would a couple from Sevenhampton and Whittington get married in Hampnett? Apparently in the eighteen years between 1837 and 1854 , 346 marriages were conducted in Hampnet – a very small village. The parish register shows the marriages of couples from all over Glos and neighbouring counties – strange. The Marriage Act which came into force in 1754 made it mandatory that one of the partners had to be resident in the parish.
