There is a clear trail of the parents of Franklin, which tends to be confirmed by the offspring Christian names. William was part of the great miners' emigration from Cornwall into the mining communities of Bruce Mines, Canada. A marriage certificate shows his wife as Jane LAUB, but that may have been pronunciation/spelling error. The William Hockings/(Mary) Jane Lobb marriage in Gwinear certainly fits well. They probably emigrated in 1855 as they disappear from the census' after that time. Canadian immigration records prior to 1865 are very few. There is one consideration to be checked - six years between a marriage and first born is extremely unusual - however it might be expected that the first son would be named after the father (and/or grandfather) and there are no relevant birth records for the Redruth district prior to 1860 Looks though William became a naturalised US citizen in 1872

We have some debate about (Mary) Jane. She appears to have preferred the name Jane, but why would she use the same name as her sister? Or maybe it really was her sister Jane who married William!.. Either way their parents would be John and Charlotte.
